Island acquires low carbon expertise

The Channel Islands have their first certified Low Carbon Energy Assessor.

Darren Etasse, Commercial Director of Amalgamated Facilities Management, has qualified with the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers and UK Government  as an assessor in both design and operation. This achievement means that AFM is now offering energy consultancy to clients who are either constructing a new building or managing an existing one.

Mr Etasse, who is also a qualified Building Services Engineer, said his latest qualification brings many opportunities: ‘It’s good news from an industry perspective as we’re now the only Channel Island firm delivering energy certification that complies with the latest national regulations for all commercial and public buildings.’ He added: ‘I’m also looking forward to helping our States to understand and adopt best practice from the UK energy sector, to reduce the islands’ carbon footprint. We’re talking about some real economic and environmental benefits.’

Mr Etasse, who has worked with AFM for 15 years, undertook two years of study and examinations in the UK to qualify as a Low Carbon Energy Assessor and Consultant.

Chris Leach, Managing Director of AFM, welcomed the news: ‘Darren’s expertise positions us at the leading edge of UK energy thinking. Although the certification system has yet to include the Channel Islands, it will soon be here and we are ahead of the game in terms of helping local organisations to achieve those new standards.
